Understanding NHL Betting Odds
Let’s take a look at some betting lines to better understand different types of bets for NHL games.
Team | Spread |
---|---|
St. Louis Blues | +1.5 (-290) |
Dallas Stars | -1.5 (+240) |
The Point Spread adds or subtracts points from the team’s final score and pays out accordingly. For example, St. Louis Blues is at +1.5 (-290) meaning that they get a 1.5 point spread, and if they do, a $290 bet will return $100. Dallas Stars is at -1.5 (+240) meaning that they must win by more than 1.5 points, and if they do, a $100 bet will return $240.
Team | Moneyline |
---|---|
St. Louis Blues | +110 |
Dallas Stars | -120 |
The Moneyline (or sometimes known as the Puckline) is straight bet on who will win the game. In the table above, the St. Louis Blues are listed at +110, meaning a $100 bet will win $100. The Dallas Stars are listed at -120, meaning a $120 bet will win $100.
Game | Score | Over | Under |
---|---|---|---|
St. Louis Blues vs Dallas Stars | 5 | +100 | -120 |
Betting on the Over/Under is a bet on the combined scores of both teams. It doesn’t matter who wins. In the example above, the score is at 5, meaning your bet would be on if the final combined scores would be over 5 or under 5. The over is at +100, which means a $100 bet would win $100. The under is at -120, which means a $120 bet would win $100.
